I am so excited for our upcoming workshop. Here are a few details that will help you prepare.
Below is the link to Cogs Creek- the studio space we will be creating in!
It is right downtown and easy to find. A cab or your hotel shuttle will know where to go. It is on the corner of Maple and Second street in Traverse City.
We will meet at 9 am and break for lunch on our own from 12-1:30 This is plenty of time to discover downtown TC and eat at any of the awesome restaurants. You may also want to walk to the beach for inspiration and take lunch to go! You will want this time to digest the earlier session and prepare your creative brain.
Once at the studio you will be able to walk anywhere you need to go.
We will meet again from 1:30-4.
Things to bring:
A lined composition book, or journal (I like to use the cheap black and white kind with the fat lines found at the office supply store)
Your Laptop and all its cords and paraphernalia ( very optional)
pens
Cut out pictures and words from magazines, pinterest or wherever, of things that inspire you.
Pictures of yourself and your loved ones (that you will be willing to cut and paste) and pictures of ideas that you wish to write about. The pictures of yourself are important.
A new journal (I like the spiral bound kind found at Michaels or art supply stores. NO LINES.) It needn't be expensive drawing paper, but it should be spiral bound and at least 7"x9". I think the one Im using now is 11" x 14". Buy whatever size suits your fancy. *If you forget, or would rather buy one here, we will have them available for sale. Please dont stress about this. Its just a journal. You arent going to get it wrong. Let us know if you need one, so that we have enough on hand. One more thing to confuse you... If you are excited about painting, and using mixed media, you may want to purchase a journal with heavier paper in it. The really really cheap paper buckles with moisture and will disappoint you. If you plan to just stick to the glue stick and markers, a cheap journal will be fine. You will keep this and prepare your book in it, so get something that will last.
A pack of markers, any size or tip (I use cheap ones, but they dry out fast, so make sure they are new and juicy!)
A pack of colored pencils I use expensive ones (Berol thick leads are my favorites. The others dont seem to stick. THey have too much wax)- PS money saving tip- Michaels usually has a 40% off coupon every week. Find it online! Also Dickblick.com and misterart.com are options) You dont need the large pack like I have. The basic pack will work fine (unless you want to invest in your future creative works. Colored pencils are always a staple in my repertoire)
I will provide other materials, (paint, glue, Xacto knives, etc) but you will want your own basics for convenience and for future use.
Optional: Bring a short sample of your writing that you are willing to share.
